Lets say a very high quality furniture manufacturer designs a bedroom set made of the best materials by hand and it becomes incredibly popular. You can bet your entire furniture shopping budget that many other companies from all over the world are going to make copies of that popular style for a fraction of the original's price. Although, many of these copies may still be of a reasonable quality and a perfect fit for your lifestyle and furniture shopping budget; they aren't the “same thing” as the original.

Here are some fundamental factors and examples that influence the price of a piece of furniture:

• Design: Original, reproduction, or an adaptation.
• Materials: Real wood or a synthetic wood finish.
• Manufacturing Process: Hand crafted in the USA or mass-produced overseas.
• Details: Hand carved or plastic moldings.
• Shipping & Storage: Factory built or assembly required.
